FOCOPI Intern- Summer 2016

As part of Northwestern University’s Global Engagement Studies Institute (GESI), I was paired to work with the non-profit organization Soluciones Comunitarias in the Dominican Republic. My team’s main goal was to implement and improve sustainable and self-empowering programs for low-income Dominicans and Haitian immigrants across the country. I had the idea to create profiles of Dominican in bateys who benefit from FOCOPI, a microfinancial loan program available to undocumented peoples. Each profile is written, shot, and designed by me. I interviewed and photographed several recipients of the microfinance group FOCOPI to design profiles that could help increase donations and volunteer efforts.
